What to Expect

MV The Ferryman travels up the Pumicestone Passage which runs between Bribie Island and the mainland towards Caloundra and takes in the shipwreck of the SS Avon, then the township of Toorbul, and follows the channel that Mathew Flinders found over two hundred years ago which takes you past the township of Donnybrook.

The Pumicestone Passage Marine Park, from the southern entrance to the Caloundra bar at the north, is just over 35 kilometres long via the channels and has a surface area of 63sq kilometres. The marine park has 24 islands and is bounded by 240 kilometres of shoreline.

During the cruise there will be commentary relating to the area covering the local history, both aboriginal and European, the local environment and the fauna and flora.

Depending on the length of the cruise we may enter the area known as Tripcony Bight which is the oldest registered fish habitat area in Queensland. This section of the cruise gives you the opportunity for a possible sighting of Thomas Martin Tripcony's original chimney stack built in the 1860's or take in Mission Point or have morning tea in Glass Mountain Creek- the creek Matthew Flinders navigated when he climbed Mount Beerburrum in July 1799 at the tender age of just 25.

All the time we are cruising past these wonderful sights we will be keeping an eye out for such amazing creatures as Dugong, Dolphins, Turtles, Sea Eagles, kangaroos, and many of the different bird species.

2, 3 and 4 HOUR CRUISES
Each Ferryman cruise takes you up past the shipwreck of the SS Avon and the townships of Toorbul and Donnybrook, through the intertidal banks into many interesting parts of the Marine Park and following the channel around the islands that Matthew Flinders charted in 1799.

Our longer cruises take you further up the Pumicestone Passage to Mission Point, Jabiru’s Nest, Tripcony Bight and beyond.

The longer the cruise, the further up the Marine Park the cruise will take you into rarely visited areas.

ALL DAY ADVENTURE CRUISE – ‘SKIDS RUN’ Dictated by tides – generally only scheduled as demand, and if tides are suitable.
This cruise takes you through the junction of the joining tides known as the Narrows W's & Skids.  This area gets down to 10cm deep at low tide.  Very tricky! In view of Caloundra for lunch then home.

A BIG DAY OUT INTO PLACES RARELY SEEN DUE TO SHALLOW AND INACCESSIBLE WATERS.

All Ferryman cruises feature an informative commentary relating to the Aboriginal history, environmental significance and wildlife found in the area including dugong, dolphin, jabiru, dingoes, emu, brolgas, and many of the other 360 bird species, some migrating from the Northern Hemisphere every year.
