Sept-Nov 09: Dolphins have been a bit 'hit & miss' over the last couple of months. we many see them for a few days, and then they are gone for a few days. they like to come in on the high of the tide, do some serious fishing and then they are off!! We had a great sighting in September of a mother and her calf - it was only a couple of days old so it was keeping pretty close to mum!! Got some great shots!!
July 09: Fish must be running as we are now seeing numerous pods of dolphins regularly and they are obviously fishing. Much jumping out of the water and frollicking is being seen at the moment, and the days have been magnificent for spotting these wonderful mammals!! May/June 09: Well these guys are very unpredictable!! They come into the Passage early in the mornings, generally on a rising tide - do their fishing - generally near the bridge - and then head out to sea!! However, there is alot of fresh water in the passage at present, as well as poor visibility due to heavy recent rains, so maybe this is keeping them away for a couple of weeks while this all settles down. We are still seeing them regularly enough, however not for very long. Once the Tailor season starts, and the winter fish breeds, we may start to see some more come in to feed and play. Dec-Jan 09 -
Dolphins have been few and far between over the last month or so although a small pod of Indo Pacific dolphins have been spotted regularly fishing within the passage. October 2008 Still seeing dolphin regularly with young now being seen in the pods, and watching them teach their young to fish. September 2008 Lots of dolphins sighted with lots of playing, romancing and feeding going on. August 2008 Seeing lots of pods of dolphin regularly in the Passage with some young with the various pods. They have been very friendly and do not hesitate to come under the front of the vessel to look up at us - what a treat!! We are seeing dolphins almost daily and a couple of the regular pods have babies, so Sea World is not the only lucky one as we have baby dolphins too, who choose to swim in our wonderful Passage Marine Park regularly! |
